4. Community based Research and Data Intelligence

Community based research many times is required to establish a baseline prior to deploying a community based project or measure impact after deployment of a project, or to get a general understanding of the DNA of the community and the status of certain social aspects within the community to help scope a specific intervention.

Aligned with our goal to address social ills in vulnerable communities, we have partnered with research institutions such as the CSIR, University of Columbia in New York and the University of Western Cape to use best practices when deployment community research projects.

As a community based organisation, MeMeZa is well placed to run large scale data intelligence gathering projects on a National Scale.

Through these types of intelligence gathering projects we provide community youth an income opportunity through earning stipends, getting trained on the latest technology to do large scale community based surveys and audits, that result in action being taken to address social challenges.

An example of one such a project is the Community Safety and Support Project funded through the Liquor Industry, where MeMeZa as the project deployment partner enabled rapid audits and reporting of COVID-19 non-compliant liquor outlets and customers, which lead to empowering Community Policing Forums and SAPS to respond pro-actively to non-compliance during the COVID-19 lockdown.
